On Saturday 12th November our group arranged with the local Royal British Legion branch to take part in a wreath laying ceremony, at our nearest War Memorial in Woolwich cemetery.
We arrived at the War Memorial, with members of all four of our sections and leaders present, and all very smartly turned out. Shortly before 11 o’clock, we were joined by the the Royal British Legion, Councillor Olu Babatola – Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Denise Hyland – Leader of Greenwich Council, Councillor Angela Cornforth – Plumstead ward, Clive Efford MP – Eltham MP, and the Chief Inspector for Plumstead Police station.
At 11 o’clock our flag bearers for each section joined the Legion standard bearer in lowering their flags, as the last post was played. A two minute silence was then observed, followed by the wreath laying. Before being formally dismissed.
After the short service the Mayor met with members of the group, and was so impressed with our turnout at the service that we have been invited to the Mayor’s parlour in the near future.
